In the week beginning Monday the 4th of August, students from RMIT had the opportunity to donate blood at our nearest blood donation centre. With many students already on a blood donating schedule, we were able to create a group of previous donors, who fell out of a donation schedule and bring many new donors into the blood donation system. Twenty one students that had never given blood before signed up to donate. This is a huge step, not only for this particular week, but given them the experience, possibility and ‘know how’ of future donations.
As often happens, some students were unable to donate on the day, with slightly weakened immune systems, or slightly lowered blood pressure at the sight of needles, but nonetheless, we still managed 19 donations. As each donation can save 3 lives, this equates to contributing to saving 57 lives! There are also 10 students that have re-booked from this week to a different time as they were not well enough to donate.
With the slogan, “I’m Bloody Fantastic”, we were able to get a few happy snaps of students saving lives.
