The World Congress of Chiropractic Students (WCCS) UJ Chapter has had a very busy 2014, with the new executive committee being elected.
During the week of 13 – 16 October 2014 the WCCS UJ chapter celebrated World Spine Day by setting up informational displays about common spinal and extremity injuries and about the chiropractic profession. On 16 October, we provided free spinal screenings for the students and staff on campus to raise awareness of chiropractic and the importance of spinal health. Over 120 spinal screenings were done in 6 hours! On the same day the WCCS UJ chapter with the help of a few volunteers, dressed up as a human spine and walked around campus handing out flyers about chiropractic and advertising the free spinal screenings.
On 3 October 2014 the WCCS UJ chapter organised the first ever Blood Donation Drive. Over 26 people came to support with a total of 19 donating, most for their first time. The second and third Blood Donation Drive were held on 28 November 2014 an the 10 February 2015.
The WCCS UJ chapter is looking forward to an exciting and successful 2015 and will be attending the 37th WCCS AGM in Atlanta, Georgia in April 2015. Congratulations to the UJ delegation Gillian Johnston, Lauren Eves, Thiani de Beer, Gareth Hardie, James Lowe and Chanelle Scott Crossley. We are also excited to have partnered up with Straighten Up South Africa and we look forward to assisting this great organisation with promoting spinal health and good posture to schools all around South Africa. Our upcoming Blood Donation Drive will be taking place on 9 February 2014.
